We had our ward conference on Sunday and the theme was "Gospel Centered Lives - Gospel Centered Homes". In a class for parents of teenagers a message was shared that really touched me. The teacher told about an experience where there was an apostle at a stake conference and in a meeting with a smaller group of adults he asked everyone to close their eyes. He asked everyone a few questions and they were supposed to raise their hands to answer the questions. He asked if they had read their scriptures that morning, had family prayer, had personal prayer, had family home evening the previous week. Our teacher shared with us how she felt sitting there in front of an apostle of Jesus Christ and not being able to raise her hand to every question and how she would feel if the Savior himself asked her those question. Well it really hit home to me and I know that I need to do better. So last night I planned a family home evening and we talked about how important it is to have a testimony of Joseph Smith because if you have a testimony of him and his story then everything else just falls into place. We watched the 1976 version of "The First Vision". I really wanted to show the newer version but didn't have it on DVD.

I challenged everyone to read Joseph Smith's story before next Monday and to pray about it to know for themselves that what he said really did happen and that his story is true. Craig and I bore testimony to our children so that they know that we know. Afterward we had this really yummy, fattening treat.
